Do you ever read something about a character in a dozen different fanfictions, only to realize later... Wait. That trait wasn't in the source material. Everyone said it, so I thought it must be canon, but... It's FANON!
Whether it's a character's name, interest, habit, or sexuality, almost every fandom has at least one fan-made belief that became so widespread that it's almost taken as canon by now.
