Rocket had us worried.
Over the last day, we noticed that Rocket, our pet raccoon, wasn’t acting like himself. He wasn’t interested in food, seemed uncomfortable, and wasn’t eating nearly as much as normal. Anytime one of our animals starts showing signs that something may be wrong, we take it seriously.
To make sure Rocket was okay, we brought him to Birds & Exotic Vet in Greenacres, Florida, where Dr. Romo and the team performed a full examination and several diagnostic tests to help us figure out what was going on.
Thankfully, the test results came back largely negative for anything serious, which was a huge relief. It appears that Rocket is dealing with an upset stomach and some gastrointestinal discomfort rather than a major health issue. To help him recover, he was prescribed antibiotics and additional medication to help stimulate his appetite over the next seven days.
In this video, you’ll get to follow the entire process from noticing the symptoms at home, transporting Rocket to the emergency veterinarian, the examination, testing, diagnosis, and treatment plan. Caring for exotic animals comes with unique challenges, and situations like this are exactly why routine observation and quick action are so important.
