Adjusting the amount of heat you are using can definitely make a big difference in the overall shape, as well as what happens to the filler material.
Reducing heat might be an option, or Extra heat will do a nice job to blend these edges in a little more, however it will make the overall welding area bigger. We don't want to take any issues that we might be having and make them bigger overall, so that wouldn't be exactly what I would choose.

The solution that I would go with as far as keeping the overall size and shape we are working with, however allowing the edges to blend in easier, would be to decrease the amount of filler. Excessive filler is always going to collect areas, especially on a lower edge like this one here where gravity is pulling on this side more than the other. Different approaches might help some aspects of this problem, decreasing the amount of filler would be my first choice.
