The prank college students Justin Shillock and Michael Wiseman played in 2006, editing the Pringles Wikipedia page, giving their mascot the name, Julius Pringles, lives on as a new form of reality.
What happened in the years that followed is what Ryan Holiday calls "Trading up the chain" in his book, Trust Me, I'm Lying. The highly media literate and savvy will recognize it as a sort of pseudo-event.
From this one source, it got picked up by various blogs and small news outlets, to the point that the Pringles mascot name is now officially Julius Pringles.
