What's (in) a Build System? - Zack Cerza & John Mulligan, IBM
Everyone is familiar with how easy it is to build Ceph right? No? So there's room for improvement and that's what we'll be discussing in this talk.
A few of the challenges we face are: traceability, consistency, performance, and difficulty in onboarding. We'll talk about improvements to the Jenkins CI pipelines, scripts that isolate builds inside containers, documentation, and tooling improvements to enable building on newer platforms such as Ubuntu Noble and Enterprise Linux 10.
If time permits, we'll cover some of the future plans we have.
We hope that you will come away from this talk with a good idea of how Ceph's build system works, and how it can make your day-to-day life as a Ceph developer easier and less frustrating.
