We are always our worst critics.
Building a healthy relationship with your art takes times, and it's got a lot to do with our personality, how we were raised and even the people we surround ourselves with. But there are a few simple things you can do to set this mindset shift into motion.
βοΈ Build the habit of drawing.
Don't lie; you do have 5 minutes a day. During your coffee break, at the bus, the doom-scrolling while you're on the toilet...
Switch that time for a pencil and sketchbook and just draw lines, random shapes or any kind of silly doodle.
π· Draw anything
Don't fall for the "looking at Pinterest for inspiration" loop. Draw that mug next to you. The shoes of whoever is sitting in front of you at the bus. Getting to know your drawing tools is necessary for your skills to grow. And you can only do that by drawing A LOT
π± Draw ugly
Focus on the process more than one the results. Don't let mistakes haunt you. They are an unavoidable part of the learning process.
π Draw what makes you happy
Associate drawing with something positive. Why would you stress learning about backgrounds when you clearly prefer drawing portraits? Or your pets? Whatever it is you're passionate about, use it to fuel your creativity!
Hope this help you if you've been feeling anxious about your art, or wanting to start drawing. You're really the only one that sees it as something horrendous. To anyone else, your hands create magic!
