what you see says more about you than about me...

original visuals and concept inspired by the Rorschach test: a diagnostic tool used by psychologists to measure the personality or mental state of the test taker, who is presented with 10 abstract inkblots and then asked to describe what he or she sees in them. when conducting the test, psychologists note any abnormalities in the subject's interpretations that deviate from the typical answers previous test takers have given. when a response or description is truly unusual and surprising, it can be a sign that the test taker has some neurodivergent qualities and/or is projecting unresolved traumas, thoughts, and experiences onto what is otherwise just an abstract & randomized inkblot image.

as an artist, like many others, i create works about myself on both a conscious and subconscious level, inspired by all eras of my life. when one of my artworks is put out into the world, i relinquish any control i once had over its meaning, despite whatever contextual framing i can try to give it through its title, caption, etc... in publishing an artwork i find myself in the position of the psychologist: i see viewer responses to my work. sometimes viewers project their own thoughts, experiences, and mental states onto my artwork in unexpected ways. like the psychologist giving a test, my artworks are like Rorschach inkblots, there for you to interpret. so what do you see?
