AUSTRALIAN CENSUS
Tomorrow is census night, where every household in Australia is going to fill out a form with a bunch of questions about who we are, where we live, and what we do. The census is basically a big survey run by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, or ABS. It's filled in by, or on behalf of everyone who's in Australia, on one night, every five years. Australia's first official census happened in 1911, but they've happened across the globe for thousands of years. So, why are they important? Well, imagine trying to plan a present for someone you know nothing about, you might end up getting them something they don't necessarily need. The answers and stats we get from the census help the government, and businesses, and community groups, make important decisions for the future, and help us work out what locations or groups of people need a bit of help. This year the census will ask a few new questions about gender and sexual orientation, you'll be able to choose more cultural ancestries when describing your household, and say if you ride a bike or e bike to work. It's all about creating a better more accurate picture of Australia
JETSTAR QATAR NEAR MISS
A major incident at Sydney Airport saw two planes come within metres of crashing into each other. At around 7:20am yesterday, a Jetstar flight about to take off for the Gold Coast was forced to slam on the brakes, as a Qatar Airways flight was approaching on the tarmac. Thankfully, the two planes came to a halt just in time. While no one was seriously hurt, one flight attendant was injured. Now, two airport workers have now been stood down, and the aviation safety watchdog has launched a big investigation into what went wrong.
AFLW IS BACK
The 2026 AFLW season officially kicked off on Sunday, with more than 20,000 fans packing into Marvel Stadium for the Carlton and St Kilda clash. The Blues got off to a flying start with young gun Poppy Scholz kicking the first goal of the season. St Kilda were behind for most of the game, but made an impressive comeback in the final quarter. In the end Carlton held on, coming out on top with a 26 point win.
IZOBELLE LOUISON-ROE
Finally, to the World Athletics U20 Championships! Where 19-year-old Izobelle Louison-Roe, cleared an incredible 1.95 metres in the women's high jump! And that jump was enough to win her gold.
CORGI RACE
First up! To a corgi race in the United States. Around 40 dogs have rocked up from all over to take part, and while they mostly look pretty locked in, I'm not sure they all know they're meant to be racing. Corgis were originally bred in Wales, in the UK to herd cattle. Despite those short legs, they know how to move fast!
PORRIDGE COMP
Now to a porridge making competition on the New South Wales Central Coast, to find Australia's best porridge maker! Contestant had 30 minutes to make the perfect bowl of oats, and the rules are simple, you can only use oats, water, and salt. And this year's winner is Robert here! He'll now get to represent Australia at the World Porridge Making Championships in Scotland, later this year.
LAWN MOWER RACE
And finally, to a lawnmower race in England. 30 teams battled it out for the 9-hour-long endurance race, all rocking modified mowers. Modified in the sense that, they've all had their blades removed. And while it might not look like it at times it can feel like an extreme sport.
