The one thing that hasn't changed since the Civil War (or even the Civil Rights Movement) is the Democrat party?
The Ku Klux Klan was opposed to progressive Reconstruction, against Republicans who were liberal at the time; the klan wanted to *conserv* white supremacy; maintain traditional values which was white America.
