Yesterday’s polluting fuel could be transformed into a valuable material for tomorrow’s clean electric cars. Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory created and tested two methods for transforming coal into the scarce mineral graphite, which is used in batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.
