Picking the right white balance is probably MUCH easier than you think. If you’re shooting under controlled light, it can be beneficial to use a grey card to set white balance prior to shooting. However, if you’re shooting in changing lighting conditions (outdoors), just use auto-white balance. As long as you’re shooting in RAW, there is no penalty to make adjustments to the white balance in post-processing, giving you one less thing to worry about when you’re trying to find the perfect composition.
