Boats produce a lot of noise that impact whales and can change their behavior.

Human use of the oceans are incredibly beneficial to human populations,

but regulations are often focused on the ways that we can benefit ourselves

instead of focusing on our impact on marine animals.

We now need to use our scientific knowledge to inform policy

to focus on how marine animals are impacted by human use of the oceans.

It can be challenging to be hopeful right now.

Especially as we see, human use of the ocean changing.

I think it's important to stay hopeful, because if we're not hopeful, then

no one is going to do the work in order to protect those animals that need us.

And right now, we're at the best time to start.

If we let things continue, it will get worse.
