They generate it automatically utilizing the same technology that they utilize in the Google voice product.

Which means, at least the time of this writing, their closed captioning is terrible.

So, they will do automatic close captioning but it's really bad. (I've almost wanted to dedicate a channel about the bad closed captioning that comes from Google and YouTube—because it's just absolutely terrible.)
