Sometimes we don’t know what to say when we hear bad news… so here’s a few tips to be a source of support in tough times!
1. Saying “I’m so sorry this is happening” may seem overly simplistic, but it’s often overlooked, and is the easiest way to express your care when you don’t know what to say.
2. Offering practical help (not in an “I’m going to fix this” kind of way, but again, demonstrating genuine care) can be a real gift. I usually don’t ask if they need help or a meal, I just offer what I’m going to do (so many people don’t know what they need or won’t ask for the help they need most).
3. Asking for specific things to pray for or offering your simple prayers is so powerful. Taking time to ask for the specifics (like what would you like most in a job or spouse, or what specific medical outcome are we looking for?) makes our prayers more clear and increases faith!
Do you have a go to statement or way of demonstrating care in a crisis or difficult time? Please share so we all can learn and grow together!! 💛
