The Montauk Point Lighthouse stands at the easternmost tip of Long Island, New York. It's a place where land meets sea, where safety meets danger. A liminal space.
On July 15, 2012, lighthouse keeper Malcolm Pearce was working the afternoon shift alone at The Montauk Point Lighthouse. His co-worker had called in sick. Despite being the middle of summer, an extremely thick fog had surrounded the lighthouse. Visibility was reduced to just about 50 feet in any direction. Even stranger, there was no wind. No sound of waves crashing. Just... stillness. After completing his routine check of the lighthouse lighting equipment, Malcolm started walking down the spiral staircase toward the keeper's quarters. That's when he noticed something strange about the fog outside.
It wasn't drifting normally. It was... pulsing. Rhythmically expanding and contracting. But then the pulsing became faster. More intense.
And the fog started to change color....
