Economy picking is a really useful technique to incorporate into you guitar playing. It's very similar to alternate picking but has a slight advantage over strict alternate picking which helps when string changing.
For me - picking has never really been a strong point in my guitar playing & for years I never really knew where I was going wrong. It's actually not even too long ago that I started looking into how I could improve my picking and I came across economy picking. After experimenting for a little while economy picking has fast become a bit more of a regular feature in my playing.
It's made certain things I play a lot smoother and easier.
