An emergent new form of livestreaming has taken over the internet. The latest creation from Japan comes in the form of anime girls supplanted onto 3D models and brought to life with the magic of green screens and voice actors on live broadcasts. Few people know the true identities behind these characters, and yet everyone seems to be enamored with them. Many questions arose in my head, where did they come from? What makes them so appealing to people? And what does this mean for the future of the internet? Eventually, after months of immersing myself into their domain, I believe I've discovered what exactly it is about VTubers that seems to draw viewers away from humanity and into the virtual world...
