What the hell happened to the Resident Evil movies?
We went back and watched all six Milla Jovovich Resident Evil films—from the original 2002 movie through Resident Evil: The Final Chapter—to figure out what worked, what failed, and where this franchise completely went off the rails.
We're talking about Alice becoming ridiculously powerful, wasted characters like Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy and Albert Wesker, confusing continuity, Umbrella's increasingly bizarre plans, the shift from survival horror to over-the-top action, and some absolutely insane editing choices.
But it wasn't all bad. There are things we genuinely love about these movies, and the original Resident Evil still did a lot right.
So where did the franchise lose its way? Did Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil movies deserve all the hate—or have they become underrated guilty pleasures?
