At surface level, Halo: Combat Evolved’s first-person frightener 343 Guilty Spark is a simple affair – Master Chief enters a building, gets surprised by new foe The Flood and eventually manages to escape.
But there are lots of unanswered questions too, including what happened to the Covenant who arrived at the forerunner facility prior to Captain Keyes, who is firing the assault rifles near the structure’s entrance when Master Chief investigates and why The Flood do not attack Chief on sight. And that’s to name just a few.
During this video, I’m going to explain what I think occurred as best I can – and indulge in some speculation – using in-game events as well novel The Flood, which also covers the story of Installation 04 and is considered cannon.
