In cells, energy is produced by mitochondria. But what is the source of this energy, and how do mitochondria produce it?
On the molecular level, the molecule that transmits energy to any molecular motor that produces work is Adenosine triphosphate, ATP. This molecule transports the energy under the form of chemical bond, and it’s by breaking it’s chemical bond and producing adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and an inorganic phosphate that the energy is released. But the ATP has to come from somewhere. Watch this video to learn how it is produced.
