WHAT MAKES A PLUGIN MORE ANALOG? || Understanding the differences between clean linear fakes and 'non-linear' analog emulation EQ in DDMF PLUGINDOCTOR
I know many of you audio engineers love the ddmf plugin doctor clips i include within my mixing videos but many don't really understand exactly what they are looking at when I talk about linear digital eq's and analog eq's in terms of analog emulation plugins.
To give the best results i have decided to create an audio test between convolution plugins (acustica audio plugins) and algorithmic plugins in the forms of acustica audio cream 2 and waves abbey road rs56 curvebender. Acustica cream 2 has sampled vintage EMI consoles based in Prime Studios in Austria, where waves audio modelled the orginal passive equalizer from the 50's in Abbey Road studios.
I also include the plugin alliance lindell 80 channel so I can show how algo plugins recreate non linear behaviour in analog hardware via the brainworx TMT which recreates the analog tolerances between console channels and also the difference in stereo analogue devices where we can find differences in left and right via the linear frequency response.
I also used waves f6 to match the waves rs56 curves and show how clean the waves curvebender is via the lack of harmonics (THD+N)
