708,000 acres. Thousands of years of history. And something out here that doesn’t show up on any map.
Tonight I’m taking you into the Daniel Boone National Forest in eastern Kentucky . one of the oldest and most mysterious stretches of wilderness in America. We’ll talk about the people who sheltered here thousands of years before anyone whose name we know. About Daniel Boone himself, captured along the Licking River right here in this region, adopted into the Shawnee tribe and given the name Sheltowee ,Big Turtle. About what this forest holds that most people will never notice because they’re moving too fast to feel it.
Then I’m sharing two accounts that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.
The first account comes from Larry , a chicken hauler out of Flatrock, Alabama who had never heard the word Dogman in his life until the night something eight or nine feet tall grabbed onto the back of his moving eighteen wheeler and tried to tear the cages off. He carries a pistol now. He doesn’t think it would help him. He carries it anyway.
The second happened here. In this forest. On trails I’ve walked personally. To someone I know. Seven years ago. And it ended with something in the trees making a sound they swear on their life they’ve never heard before or since.
If you’ve had a strange encounter, it doesn’t matter where you are, how long ago it happened, or how unbelievable it sounds , I want to hear from you. Your name stays out of it if you want it to. Your story will be heard here.
You are not alone and you will not be laughed at.
Stay safe out there. Keep your head on a swivel.
