La Niña has arrived, bringing with it the threat of severe disruptions. Scientists from the Indian Meteorological Department had already warned that the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 could witness extreme cold due to an unusual drop in temperatures. In response, the government has also issued early advisories to citizens to prepare for this.
However, the strange thing is that if you look closely, the cold that we were warned about is nowhere to be seen in India so far. In fact, quite the opposite has been observed. Historically speaking, the months of October and November this year were the warmest ever recorded. For instance, October 2023 was the hottest October since 1901, and November was the warmest November for North India.
So, will La Niña bring the devastation that scientists have been warning us about?
