I don't believe anyone's healing or recovery is the same or takes a predictable trajectory. Do your best to meet yourself where you are, accept every feeling as valid and allowed, and try to have patience. I know it's hard to wake up day after day and feel stuck in anger or grief or wishing the past was different I know how hard it is to feel your own frustration and the frustrations of others that you're "still thinking about that". It'll pass eventually... and then probably come back... only to move on again. Even though you're in pain and grieving and angry, you can still feel moments joy and gratitude, though they may be small and fleeting. Be kind to yourself as you face these feelings; as kind as a loving parent should be.

Remember that it's your right and responsibility (once you're an adult) to protect yourself from people who purposefully and consistently try to do you harm (physically or emotionally) or people who deny your perception or perspective. You have full permission to do whats necessary to protect yourself, even if that means terminating a pathological relationship. You don't have to feel guilty because someone else refuses to change or reflect on their behavior.

It's also your responsibility to do everything within your power to stop perpetuating the hurtful behavior you were taught is normal. Manipulation, mean spirited put-downs, gaslighting, or any behavior that erodes the self-worth of others is not normal. Healthy, long-lasting, mutually enriching relationships are not possible when this type of behavior is present. Facing yourself and the reality of your actions is hard, it brings up a lot of shame and regret, but facing these blisteringly painful truths and doing the hard work to change your patterns WILL SAVE YOU AND THOSE WHO LOVE YOU A LIFETIME OF PAIN.

Your best health and most content self is achievable through a healthy lifestyle, centered around abundant whole plant foods and genuine self-care. It’s achievable if you gather the common-sense information, cut the bullshit, and commit to your wellbeing as a real priority.

I also encourage us all to acknowledge our inherent responsibility to protect our environment (currently being decimated by animal agriculture: the leading cause of green house gas emissions) and speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves: the billions of sentient beings who are tortured and slaughtered every year. OUR CHOICES MATTER.
