Drop a 🤷🏽‍♀️ below if you’ve ever wondered what all these United Nations events are about.
Perhaps you’ve wondered why there is so much CONVERSATION around solving the world’s problems, when instead there should just be ACTION.
The reality is that both are important. Events like UNGA and the G20 (see previous #FridayFUNDays video!) help us get aligned on how to best accomplish important matters like the SDGs also known as the Global Goals. Think of the SDGs as the world’s school project, and these events as study sessions. It’s an opportunity for world leaders, advocates, organizations and institutions to raise, learn and discuss progress and obstacles that are preventing success. It’s also an important moment to keep each other accountable (no one wants that one person who’s in the group who doesn’t do anything but wants that good grade).
At #UnicornIslandFund, we believe that teamwork really does make the dream work. With an issue as big and complex as gender inequality, you need to collaborate, learn from each other and share resources. It is at events like UNGA where we’ve met unlikely allies, future partners and critical funders. Sometimes you need to be in tough rooms, having tough conversations to solve tough problems.
We take the learnings, motivation, clarity and collaborations from events like UNGA and action them to empower even more girls. Because a team needs both conversations and action to reach their goals. So follow our journey to UNGA as @lilly heads to NYC this month.
And don’t forget we post educational videos just like this every Friday. Spread the word!
