The Friday the 13th movies are usually considered the worst of the big 3 slasher franchises, yet Jason Voorhees and the series remain beloved in horror communities. This video essay attempts to unpack where the appeal of the series lies by placing the movies within a historical context and taking a closer look at the presentation of violence.
