$How To Build A Cyborg Beetle Im going to show you how to make your very own remote controlled insect in todays Draw Curiosity Halloween Special. The cyborg beetles research is from Prof. Michel Maharbiz and Hirotaka Satos work from 2009 to the present day. Youll learn about insect flight, how to trigger it and how the direct flight muscles can be stimulated to control the beetles steering system. Most impressively, they also found a way to control insect locomotion - not just in flight but on land too by controlling how the insects walk. ERROR CORRECTION Quick note to mention I made a mistake from 1:39 - 1:47 (unless Im forgiven for saying which I think is the largest beetle...). Mecynorrhina torquata and mecynorrhina torquata ugandensis are not the largest beetles in the world, but rather, amongst the largest flower beetles (which are the ones that have a habit of flying). Beetle sellers and suppliers love mislabelling them and calling them Goliath beetles, which I think is where my confusion arose from. The rest of the information in the video should be correct - but please always let me know if you spot any mistakes. I always do my best to fact-check my videos, and in this case I got so enveloped in the science and the mechanics that I forget to verify the simplest parts of the video.
