Now that we know a little bit more about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we are going to go a bit deeper on Goal 5: Gender Equality. (And if you want a refresher – who doesn’t love a Cliff Notes! – check out last week’s #FridayFUNDay on the SDGs.)
Like all the SDGs, there are a series of ‘targets’ within each goal (and indicators for those targets! It goes deep). Goal 5 has nine targets that we must hit to achieve gender equality and empower all girls and women.
Even though Goal 5 is specific to gender, the reality is that gender is woven throughout the SDGs – it is interconnected to so many economic, social and environmental issues. In fact, gender is mentioned in 11 of the 17 Goals in some capacity. And this isn’t surprising considering females make up about 50% of the world’s population. Gender is so critical that it plays a role in more than half of the items on the world’s to-do list.
