ach year, when conditions are just right, Australia’s largest living icon bursts into new life in one of the greatest shows on the planet. In a coral's natural reproductive process, known as coral spawning, they release eggs and sperm into the water, which rise to the ocean surface, fertilise with other gametes and create coral babies.

Why do we love spawning? It's an exciting and busy time for Reef researchers, tourism operators, Traditional Owners and volunteers to scale up restoration efforts in a narrow window of time.
