In this video, I talk to Dr. Rick Lindroth about chemical ecology and why it is important. Dr. Rick Lindroth is a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of Ecology Emeritus, and former Associate Dean for Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, he works as a Distinguished Fellow with The Lumen Center, Madison. His research focused on the chemical ecology of temperate forest ecosystems, with emphases on global environmental change. He has been a Fulbright Fellow and is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Ecological Society of America, the Entomological Society of America, and the American Scientific Affiliation. Funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Energy, and other agencies, Rick and his research group have published nearly 250 journal articles and book chapters. Rick served as the major advisor for about 50 graduate and postdoctoral students, who now hold positions in academia, government service and the private sector across the USA, as well as in Europe and Asia. He served as an editor for four ecological journals, and on advisory committees for NSF, USDA, the Pew Foundation, and various universities and research institutes. As Associate Dean for Research, he functioned as the Chief Research Officer for the UW College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, with annual research expenditures approaching $100 million.
