Bonkei is the Japanese art of making a tray landscape. That is a landscape in a shallow tray. It is the Japanese version of a diorama and the trays used are the same trays that are used for bonsai trees. In this video I make a Bonkei from start to finish and show you some easy techniques for making them.. My bonkei also has some added details like a miniature hero, a gnarled tree and a beast with glowing red (LED) eyes. I show you a little bit about making these extra details.
What do you need to make your own Bonkei? I show you a variety of different materials you can use and I also show you how to make your own tray out of cardboard or foam board.
