What is ANZAC Day?
We commemorate ANZAC Day every April 25th, but why is it important? The ANZACS or the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps were the brave New Zealand and Australian soldiers who stood, fought, and died during the First World War. The brave forces went out to the Gallipoli Peninsula to claim Constantinople, the capital of the Ottoman Empire and one of Germany’s allies.
In this Mini Lesson we are paying our respects to the ANZAC soldiers. On the 25th of April we have ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand, but do all of your students know why we have this day? In this Mini Lesson, your students can hear the story of the soldiers in Gallipoli, as well as using real WWI photos to get into the mind set of the soldiers. This is a great Lesson to use before we have ANZAC day, or afterwards to revisit why the day happened.
