A graduated neutral density filter is a neutral density filter that is only a part of the filter. David slides the graduated ND filter into his camera and shows us how a camera captures scenery with and without the filter.

His use of a graduated neutral density (ND) filter shows its effectiveness in balancing exposure when there's a difference in brightness between the sky and the foreground. By sliding the graduated ND filter into his camera setup, David can darken the upper half of the frame (where the bright sky is) while keeping the lower part (the landscape or foreground) mostly unaffected besides more contrast.
