General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain words relating to the American Flag at a event in Camden, Maine, on August 30, 1906. It was the William Conway Celebration where a plaque on a boulder was placed to honor the Civil War hero for refusing to haul down the flag in Pensacola, Florida on January 12, 1861. That is three months before the Civil War started. William stated he had fought under that flag for forty years and wasn't going to haul it down. The Confederates put him in irons and locked him up, then exchange him later on.
