🦈 WHAT IS A 1,600-POUND WHITE SHARK DOING THIS FAR NORTH?
Contender, the largest male white shark tagged by OCEARCH, is once again making his way through the waters of Atlantic Canada. His movements are giving scientists another look at how white sharks use these northern habitats and why some individuals return to the same regions year after year.
“His repeated return tells us something important: this far-north habitat may be more important to white sharks than we once realized. And that’s the power of satellite tracking. One shark’s journey can reveal an entire network of habitats that we might otherwise never know was being used.” says OCEARCH Senior Data Scientist John Tyminski
