The Dragonborn’s backstory is vague at best, they’re blessed with gifts that set them apart from everyone else, and they just happen to be at the right place at the right time to fight against an ancient evil. But what if the Dragonborn died in Helgen?

What if the Dragonborn died in Helgen? (in text form)

Because the Dragonborn’s backstory is practically nonexistent due to the player’s choice of what race to make their character needing to make some logical sense in the world of The Elder Scrolls, it’s safe to assume that everything up until you wake up in the cart plays out the same. But things change when you arrive in Helgen. The Headsman’s Axe is moments away from taking off the Dragonborn’s head. The only reason he doesn’t is because of Alduin. But let’s say that the dragon doesn’t show up on time and the Dragonborn is made to be ended.

Maybe because the Dragonborn literally saves the world, you could make the argument that if he ended at Helgen -I’ll be referring to the Dragonborn as a “he” just to keep things simple- the gods would have intervened in some way. But that’s so boring and requires making a monumental assumption.

Let’s instead say that the Dragonborn ends. No resurrections this time. First things first, Helgen still gets beat swiftly by Alduin. And that’s pretty much the TL;DR of this video. Without the Dragonborn, nobody has a chance at stopping Alduin. He fulfills his destiny of destroying the world. That’s it. Full stop. Game over.

The Dragonborn is gone, but there is another dragonborn out and about who could have a role to play: Miraak. During the Dragon War, the same three heroes that fought alongside the Last Dragonborn tried to get Miraak to fight Alduin with them, but he refused. Instead he went off and did his dab thing. This stuff writes itself. The first Dragonborn passed by his first chance to fight Alduin, and now he’s the Last Dragonborn and gets a 2nd chance at taking on the world-eater. Come on, Bethesda, this isn’t that difficult. Not only does Miraak have near unparalleled experience in fighting dragons, but he knows Bend Will, so he won’t have to search for an Elder Scroll. Not to mention the fact that Miraak is supposedly thousands of years old. Now the question becomes: Can Miraak Beat Alduin? And before you leave a comment about buckets or a fork, I want you to know that you’re not as clever as you think you are.
