What if Smaug took the One Ring from Bilbo in The Hobbit?
If Bilbo had made one wrong move inside the Lonely Mountain, the Ring might never have left Erebor. It could have ended up buried in Smaug’s hoard, held by the last great dragon of the North, and placed in one of the most dangerous hiding places imaginable.
