I moved to Mexico at 61, and while I absolutely love the softer, slower life I’ve created here, there are still things I miss about living in the United States.

I miss hugging my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I miss riding to church with my boyfriend, sharing breakfast with choir members and my Women of Purpose sisters, and hearing my boyfriend’s laughter when his buddies came over to visit.

And yes—I even missed some of the everyday conveniences of life in the U.S., especially easy mail service and home deliveries!

But missing people, places, and conveniences doesn’t necessarily mean I want my old life back

In this video, I’m sharing an honest look at what I miss about America—and why those things still aren’t enough for me to trade the slower pace, freedom, community, and quality of life I’ve found living in Mexico.

Moving abroad doesn’t require you to stop loving where you came from. Sometimes creating your next chapter simply means recognizing which parts of your old life you want to carry with you—and which parts you’re ready to release.

Are you considering moving to Mexico, retiring abroad, or creating a soft life after 50? Tell me in the comments: What would YOU miss most if you moved abroad?
