Somewhere between the silver-faced receivers of the 1970s and the minimalist boxes of today, most of the front panel disappeared. Loudness, tone controls, meters, tape loops, filters, phono inputs β features that were once standard on nearly every amplifier are now either absent or sold as separate products. Some of them were removed for defensible engineering reasons. Others were removed for a much simpler reason, and given a better name. This video goes through eight of them, what each one was really for, and what happened to it.
