On October 4, 2021 Facebook experienced a Global Outage. Service began to come back up around six hours after Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram went down, however coverage was still poor.
According to public comments from the three Facebook sites, Facebook (FB), Instagram, and WhatsApp all experienced disruptions around noon on Monday.
Down Detector, an outage tracking site, logged tens of thousands of reports for each of the services. The Facebook website would not load at all; Instagram and WhatsApp were functional, but could not load new content or send messages.
"60 Minutes" broadcast a program on Sunday in which Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen stated that the business is aware of how its platforms are used to propagate hate, violence, and disinformation, and that Facebook has worked to suppress that evidence. Those assertions have been refuted by Facebook.
Following Haugen's revelation of thousands of pages of internal records to regulators and the Wall Street Journal, the interview followed weeks of reporting and criticism of Facebook. On Tuesday, Haugen will appear before a Senate subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security.
