Last year, 16 families took part in the ultimate social experiment — spending a week at the opposite end of Britain’s wealth divide. Eight households from the top 10% lived on weekly budgets of up to £3,000, while eight families from the bottom 10% survived on as little as £110. They swapped homes, budgets, and daily routines — and for many, life was never the same again.
In this special catch-up episode of Rich House, Poor House, we revisit five families from the first two series to find out what changed after the cameras stopped rolling. From unexpected friendships to life-changing gifts, we see how a single week living someone else’s life can trigger real transformation.
One of the most unforgettable stories is James Caddy and Anthony Williams, whose unlikely friendship has grown stronger over time. After experiencing the educational opportunities that come with wealth, Anthony begins to consider something he never thought possible — university. James takes him to Bristol University to explore how access courses, bursaries and support could help make Anthony’s dream a reality.
Elsewhere, we see the lasting impact of a remarkable act of kindness when a family in the top 10% bought a mobility scooter for Kim — a life-changing gift that continues to give her freedom and independence every single day. We also revisit Sharon and her family, whose week in the top 10% helped spark a new mindset — from career changes and studying to giving back through community projects.
And in one of the most emotional moments, we learn how the experience shifted priorities for millionaire dad Matt — a change that may have saved his child’s life when a sudden emergency meant he was home when his son needed CPR.
This episode proves that while the swap only lasts a week, the impact can last a lifetime — changing confidence, opportunities, careers, and even saving lives.
