What do rocks have to do with life? A lot! In this video come with me as I explore just one example of a place where you can see the connection between bedrock and biodiversity. This is located in western Massachusetts, but wherever you live you can likely find a similar place near you. Rocks are the foundation of everything else, so it makes sense that they influence the soil, and therefore the types of life that decide to take root in an area (or not root, depending on the type of organism…)

As a geologist, one of my favorite things is learning about and exploring the countless connections between rocks and other things - farming, building materials, art, and in this case, PLANTS! I have also been on a journey lately of trying to learn more about plants, birds, and everything else in nature, which you may notice in this video. Because after all, they are all out there with the rocks and I would be crazy not to want to learn more about them, right?
