"When Jesus stood up in Nazareth, saying, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, and he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor and release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind and the year of the Lord’s favor,” he wasn’t just talking to twelve people. No needy person among us is the evidence of resurrection at work in the church. But no needy person, period, is the gospel—the whole of it. And that is still being born. It will not be finished in our lifetime. But it’s the direction we’re walking. It’s the world we’re working for. It’s the imagination we’re inhabiting. And every dollar, every day, every skill, every sacrifice you make in generosity in response to a generous God is one step further down that road, toward a world a little more like the one God desires."
