Petrified wood can contain dense, highly silicified areas beside softer or more porous zones. Those mixed hardness levels wear unevenly inside a rock tumbler, causing pits, chipped edges and cloudy surfaces that final polish cannot repair. In this video, you’ll learn how to polish petrified wood more successfully by selecting better rough before stage one, using a simple steel-nail scratch test and checking the surface carefully before moving to the next grit.
