The cause of the blue screen of death (BSOD) is when Windows suddenly experiences a severe problem, that it was not able to fix, and then it has to immediately shut down in order to avoid any further damage.

It then displays a blue screen that shows you an error code that lets you know what the error is. Windows can experience these major problems because

Hardware issues. For hardware issues, something such as faulty RAM can cause "Memory management" blue screen.

-software issues. Something like critical processes crashing can cause the
"Critical process died" blue screen.

-Driver issues. For driver issues, something like the driver accessing a protected area of system memory can cause the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error.
