We recently released the "first fringes" from two SKA-Low stations, located on Wajarri Yamaji Country in Australia. The first fringes are an important milestone during testing of these first mini arrays to ensure that the system is working. Our SKA-Low Lead Commissioning Scientist Dr George Heald gives some insight into this milestone and what it means for the SKAO. 🌌
The first fringes use data obtained at Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, the CSIRO Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory. We acknowledge the Wajarri Yamaji as the Traditional Owners and Native Title Holders of the observatory site, where the SKA-Low telescope is being built.
