Tor is a useful tool, but it is hardly foolproof. A recent attack launched by researchers at Carnegie Mellon highlighted some of the weaknesses with the system. In particular, in a Tor like system control over a large number of participating nodes can be used to deanonymize traffic and potentially link users with the sites that they visit.
