Hypertext markup language (HTML) is one example of a markup language. Markup languages mix text content with instruction about how that text should look. HTML is not the only markup language, and maybe not even the best one available today for authoring web content. Let’s look at a few alternatives. That will also help better explain the concept of a markup language.
