As problematic as the American medical insurance industry is, front-line clinicians cannot be the sole judges of what care should or shouldn't be covered. There needs to be an independent, objective party - one not beholden to a corporation or profit-related motives - responsible for making broad rules on medical coverage. Some medical care is not cost-effective and is worthy of being denied. Otherwise, we won't be able to afford the care that is cost-effective.
