Wondering why you can’t hop on a train through the Metro Tunnel yet?

It’s because we still have a massive amount of work to do in the final stage of the project - what we call “Trial Operations”.

It’s when we bring in all of the people that’ll be running the stations on opening day and simulate hundreds of different scenarios - from checking the PA system, to how to evacuate in an emergency.

It’s a bit of a complicated process, so we’ll let you the experts run you through the rest.

About the Metro Tunnel Project

The Metro Tunnel will create a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in the south east, with bigger and more modern trains, and 5 new stations. With testing now underway, the Metro Tunnel will open in 2025.
